So, you know how I mentioned the other day that I dressed up as Regina the Evil Queen from Once Upon A Time for a fancy dress party? Well, I decided for my costume I was going to need a new, gothic shade of lipstick, and then popped over to Superdrug to buy the closest thing I could find.
I was after a dark, blood-red kind of colour but they didn’t have one, so the nearest thing that would do was a plumy, berry type colour – Divine Wine by Maybelline.
I only bought it because it fit the character, I never thought that I’d find much use for it beyond that, it was too over the top.
But then it ended up being the only dark, wintery colour lipstick to hand a couple of times when I was in a rush. And then people with good taste complimented me on it. So I wore it a bit more often.
Then I looked at myself in the mirror on Christmas day and realised that I absolutely LOVE this lipstick.
It makes a statement, especially next to my pale skin, ‘Hello! I’m here!’, and it’s confidence gives me confidence, even when I’m feeling a little out of sorts.
This is a bad-ass lipstick that makes me feel like I absolutely could kick enough ass to conquer a kingdom.
This is lipstick at its best.
It reminded me of why I first started to love make-up, years ago when I had at least two of every colour lipstick and eye-shadow on the market and would look in mirror and make-up bag each day and ask myself, ‘so who do I want to be today?’
Apparently for the time being the answer is a smart, sexy, powerful, all-conquering, exceptionally well-dressed witch.

The shape of your lips is incredible. No wonder you love this lipstick! And the colour seems like it was made for you as well. I have just recently discovered my love for dark lipstick and whenever I am wearing it, I also feel like “a smart, sexy, powerful, all-conquering, exceptionally well-dressed witch”. Gorgeous! I love how I feel when I’m rocking a really vampy, strong lipstick. I carry myself so differently! It’s such a great boost. Especially in the winter when you feel a bit washed out in all the blacks and greys x
